Building a better system in your automotive shop

In short, Total Quality Consulting is in the business of helping shop owners to become better managers and generate higher profits from their businesses.

TQC works closely with small groups of independent automotive shop owners to assist them in improving their skills in the following five areas of business management:

  • Financial Management

  • Productivity Improvement

  • Marketing Strategies

  • Customer Service

  • Employee Issues

 

Many shop owners started out as technicians and have come up through the ranks to become owners of their own business. However, few have had formal business management training which often results in the business becoming stalled or on a plateau.

TQC's approach to providing management training and support is from a 'real world' perspective. Dave Turner , president of TQC owned a 15 bay automotive repair business for 20 years and has an extensive background in the five areas mentioned at the left.

Essentially, TQC's mission is to help the shop owner build a better system of management by specifically addressing common business challenges such as:

  • Improved net profit

  • Increased productivity

  • Higher car count

  • Lowering stress levels

  • Improved communication

  • Better employee morale

TQC helps you achieve higher standards of management excellence by providing you with many of the “management tools” and coaching necessary to help you reach your goals. Click on the links below to view some examples.

TQC also provides unlimited telephone and online support and consulting for our members in all of the areas listed above. Additionally, each member receives a username and password to access the Members Only area of the TQC website where they will find useful information on a wide variety of management related topics.

Each month, Focus Group members go to the TQC website and fill out an online Monthly Reporting form with information taken from their profit and loss statement as well as their shop management system. This information is then compiled and a 20 page Monthly Composite Analysis is mailed out to all Group members. The Composite Analysis helps Member shop owners develop a better understanding of the financial aspects of their business and ultimately to make more informed management decisions resulting in higher profitability. Members must submit their monthly numbers no later than 30 days after the close of any given month.

Finally, in addition to the individual support and training, TQC Focus Group members meet three times per year for a group meeting located near one of the Group members shop. At these meetings, we usually discuss two or three of the above listed topics in a relaxed and friendly seminar type format. Members meet and have the opportunity to network with other non-competing shop owners. We also have a social gathering and onsite facility evaluation by the other Group members of the shop in that area. Members must commit to attending all three meetings per year or send a suitable representative from their business.
