Dave
started in the automotive trade over 30 years ago as a technician and set a goal
to own his own repair shop by the time he was age 25... and so he did just that.
Dave bought out a partner and became sole proprietor of a three bay general
automotive repair shop in Eugene, OR. Over the years, his shop grew from three
bays to 15 bays with a car wash bay, employing a staff of 16. Along the
way, Dave has served the automotive industry in many capacities including 5
years on the ASA-Oregon state board of directors, including serving as
ASA-Oregon state president in 1985. It
did not take Dave long to figure out that by making sound business decisions,
the prosperity of his shop continued to improve. Driven by the perfectionist’s
need to understand how business works, he recognized that working ‘ON
his business, not just IN
it’ was the best use of his time. Surrounding
himself with the best personnel that he could find, he began the systematic
development of methods and management tools that built his shop into one of the
premier shops in the Northwest. Dave
set goals and attained them by making a complete documentation of the processes
that succeeded, and those that did not. By utilizing computers, and his
imagination, he “built” management tools that no one else had ever
considered. Because these methods and tools are repeatable, they can be utilized
in other repair shops just as effectively. Using
the premise that most automotive shop owners began as technicians and have
little or no management training, Dave founded Total Quality Consulting in 1994
to help fellow shop owners to “grow” their business by improving their
management skills... hence the trademark of Total Quality Consulting, "Manage
to Improve"®. After
30 years of experience and exhaustive testing, the management tools that Dave
and Total Quality Consulting have developed are available to you. If
